Via France & Belgium

London to Amsterdam cycling tour Via France and Belgium, Cycling for four days covering approximately 470 miles and 9,364ft of ascent over four countries.


Starting at a convenient point in London cycling away from the busy roads and streets of the capital to the Kent Downs a Nature preserve popular with hiking, biking, horseback riding & wildlife viewing amid hills & valleys.

Heading to the white cliffs of Dove before crossing the English Channel by ferry to Dunkirk in France. 


Enjoy the quiet roads and lanes of the French countryside, before crossing the border into Belgium. ​


Cycling through Antwerp a port city on Belgium’s River Scheldt, with a history dating to the Middle Ages. Its centre, is the home to a centuries-old Diamond District which houses thousands of diamond dealers, cutters, and polishers.

 
On this challenge you will get to experience Amsterdam’s amazing cycling infrastructure, with its dedicated cycling roads and paths, passing through beautiful countryside consisting of canals, fields, and pretty towns, a true cyclist's delight.
Amsterdam is and the capital city of the Netherlands, known for its artistic heritage, intricate canal system and narrow buildings with gabled frontages, Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character and is the most popular means of transport.

Day one

London To Dunkirk

Starting at a convenient point in London we cycle away from the busy roads and streets of the capital to the Kent Downs a Nature preserve popular with hiking, biking, horseback riding & wildlife viewing amid hills & valleys. Making our way to the white cliffs of Dover where we board a ferry to France. Once across the channel we disembark and ride or transfer to our accommodation near Dunkirk.

Day Two

Dunkirk To Gent

Leaving Dunkirk cycling on city roads and cycle paths alongside the Canal De Bergues one of the oldest canals in Flanders, its path is shown on maps dating from the 9th century, joining Bergues to the port of Dunkirk, in northern France. Crossing from northern France into Belgium, finishing the day at Ghent a port city in northwest Belgium, at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers.

Day Three

Gent To Breda

Leaving Gent riding into the countryside on roads, lanes, and cycle paths before reaching Antwerp, a port city on Belgium’s River Scheldt, with a history dating to the middle Ages. Its centre, is the home to a centuries-old Diamond District which houses thousands of diamond dealers, cutters, and polishers. After cycling through Antwerp it’s roughly seventeen miles to the Belgium border with the Netherlands. Crossing the border into the Netherlands finishing the day in Breda, a city and municipality in the southern part of the Netherlands, situated in the province of North Brabant.

Day Four

Breda To Amsterdam

Leaving Breda, this is the last day cycling. Due to Amsterdam’s amazing cycling infrastructure, the route will be mainly on dedicated cycling roads and paths. The route will head north passing through beautiful countryside consisting of canals, fields, and pretty towns on the way to Amsterdam, a true cyclist's delight. Finishing at Amsterdam for a well-deserved celebration. Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands, known for its artistic heritage, intricate canal system and narrow buildings.

Day Five

Amsterdam To Hook of Holland

Leaving Amsterdam in a southwestern direction through the Het Amsterdamse Bos, a forest on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Heading to Westeinderplassen a Great lake with many small islands popular for recreational activities, and many amenities around the lake such as yachting clubs and restaurants. Cycling towards the coast where you will cycle down to the Hook of Holland, to board the overnight Ferry to Harwich in England.

Day Six

Harwich To London

Disembark the ferry at Harwich, riding away from the port and into the fabulous Essex countryside. Part of the route around Chelmsford in Essex was included in the 2014 Tour de France. Cycling quiet roads and lanes towards the finish point in London. Optional Stay in London at the end of our tour at an additional cost. We say goodbye at breakfast, it’s time to head home. Making your own way home unless a prearranged transfer has been booked with us.
